Cloak & Dapper to Open Store in Orlando

Our friends over at Cloak & Dapper are finally opening a store. A real store! Like, you can go in and shop.

Here’s a little tease they posted on their Instagram not too long ago:

And just yesterday this:

We’re really proud and happy for them. It’s been fun to watch their growth, contribution, and recognition within the Central Florida community. Remember this profile we did last year?

Can’t wait to pay the new store in Ivanhoe Village a visit soon!

Florida Mall Loses Nordstrom Department Store

Orlando Business Journal published an article on Thursday facilitating the news that Nordstrom at Florida Mall will be closing. Later next month is the targeted closing.

“…we would need to make a significant investment in this store so that we’re not offering our customers a substandard experience.”

That’s according to Nordstrom’s president of stores.

Are you a Nordstrom customer? Will you miss this location?

Best Places to Shop in Orlando

Our friends over at Visit Orlando published a post on their Facebook Page not too long ago, talking about all the places to shop in Central Florida. Now, we prefer to go local whenever possible, but we know lots of folks like to hit-up one of the many malls in the area, or even scour the outlets for the best deals.

It got us wondering where YOU like to shop the most? Tell us in the comments!

Top “Escapes” From Our Theme Parks

A Forbes article titled “5 Great Escapes From Orlando’s Theme Parks” was circulated around the interwebs this past week, and with a title like that you know our ears certainly perked up. Actually, many of the local folks we follow posted or mentioned something about it, and we’d love to hear your thoughts.

We love all of the local theme parks (it’s my bread & butter, so to speak), but one of the reasons Kim and I started this blog six years ago is to provide insight and talk about local things…living in our great Central Florida apart from the global theme parks located in our collective back yard. So referencing this Forbes article on “escaping theme parks” what are some of your favorite places, things that didn’t make the list here?

If you haven’t seen the article here are the five it mentions:

Thoughts?! Good suggestions?

New Ikea Service

ikeaWe’re not a shopping blog, but once in a while we hear a tip worth passing along.

Did you know Ikea Orlando offers In-Store Picking?  This is the perfect service for those of us (me) who get a tiny (read: a lot!) of anxiety at the very thought of winding through the retail maze at Ikea.

For $40 you make your list with an Ikea employee, pay for your items and the service, and then the employee does all the shopping for you!  No more fighting the crowds, no more trying to figure out if you got both boxes for your new Hemnes bed, it’s all done for you while you wait.  And, if you’re smart, you’ll use that waiting time to get one of those $1 ice cream cones they sell.

Would you take advantage of this service?  I might pass if I was just going in for something small, but I can see the value on those days when you’re planning to re-do an entire room.

Central Florida Life on Instagram

More of Central Florida seen through the Instagram lens. Enjoy (and if you know where any of these places are, chime in)!

Central Florida Life on Instagram

Central Florida has many great “photo opps.” Sometimes ya gotta look for them, often they find you (you just have to be ready). And when we are ready we try to capture them on Instagram. While some of these great photos make their way into our posts, they mostly don’t warrant a full blog post, so we Instashare them.

For these, we thought it’d be fun to start a little series called “Central Florida Life on Instagram,” where from time-to-time we’ll feature various photos caught over a week or two. Here’s the first…we hope you enjoy!

Know where any of this were snapped? We’d love to hear it – let’s make this interactive. And if you’re on Instagram yourself and aren’t yet following us, and would like to, feel free at (handle @PulseofCFL on the App).

The Container Store Comes to Orlando

We’re so excited about this news we can barely contain ourselves. (DOH!)

The Container Store Opens at Millenia Mall

If you’ve never experienced The Container Store and you’re someone who likes to keep things somewhat organized (we’re not talking to you OCD folks!) then you’re going to love this.

The concept of this store is fairly obvious. It’s basically the mecca of all things that can help you gain organization in your life. And it’s amazing! Central Florida is getting our very own over by Millenia Mall coming later this Spring (and the store is conveniently located by the Krispy Kreme — what, what!)

Excited as we are now?! Also, if you’re looking for a job is appears The Container Store in Orlando is hiring as well.

BRINK Magazine 2013 Calendar

We’ve been supporters of Central Florida arts/entertainment/culture magazine BRINK pretty much since the beginning (and they’ve been big supporters of ours as well). Great content, and the folks at the helm are pretty rad. So we’re happy to share with you all that the BRINK 2013 calendar is currently available for sale here. Why not support this fantastic local project for simply $4.99? (There’s also a free digital version, if you prefer, but why not shell-out the cash?!)
