STK Orlando Rides Into Orlando

“One thing you can’t do with babies, you can’t give them steak. – Flavor Flav”

Yeah…I pretty much just quoted Flavor Flav. But it seemed appropriate. And another reason babies are…well, let’s just say babies are missing out.

I don’t eat steak too often, but I’d be lying if I said I don’t crave it from time to time. Medium rare, thank you very much. So I was intrigued when I learned that STK, a modern steakhouse mixed with the ambiance of a sleek lounge, will be adding a Central Florida location to their intimate roster of restaurants. Owned by TheONEGroup, “STK offers small, medium and large cuts of meat, as well as naturally raised options and market fresh fish entrees. Aside from steak, signature items include Parmesan Truffle Fries; Lil’ BRGs; Shrimp Rice Krispies; Sweet Corn Pudding; and Jump Lump Crab Salad.” (Description courtesy of TheONEGroup’s website.) By the way…you had me at Parmesan Truffle Fries….

Not too terribly much has been revealed about the arrival of this delicious steakhouse, other than it will reside at The Landing at Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney), and will open sometime this year. Exact date has yet to be revealed. We’ll surely be dialed in, though, and will share info here as we learn about it.

Here’s a little preview of what we can expect:

Skeletons: Animals Unveiled! Invades Orlando

Make no bones about it – the additions to the I-Drive 360 entertainment complex just keep growing and growing! One which was just recently announced that caught our eye is Skeletons: Animals Unveiled!, and it’s pretty much what you would imagine it would be.

“Skeletons will exhibit over 400 skeletons in clever never-before-seen poses and dioramas and brand visitors with a whole new respect for the animal kingdom.”

Are they all real? Apparently so. Each of these species will be represented in a way that’s natural to their environment and habitat. So chances are you’ll run into this guy:

I mean, what do you think? Based on this limited insight about this new exhibit, will you visit?

Tom + Chee Brings Some Flavor to Central Florida

logoA place that specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup? SOLD! I’m in. No more details needed. But I’m going to share a few more nonetheless.

Tom + Chee is a gourmet grilled cheese chain (I’m sorry, I just love the sound of that!) originally based out of the Midwest (Ohio), and even made several appearances on the [stressful to me] show Shark Tank, and they’re bringing their delicious flavor to us folk who love to eat in Central Florida.

At the moment there are five (5) locations set to open in the area, the first of which–not surprisingly–is in Lake Buena Vista just near Downtown Disney. It’s currently slated for an April opening. (Other Central Florida locations in possible discussions are Waterford Lakes, the University of Central Florida area, Oviedo, and Altamonte Springs.)

Grilled Mac + Cheese

Kind of excited about this like I am, based on what you’ve heard so far? Check out the Tom + Chee menu and then head over to give your favorite dish a try later this spring. In case you’re interested, one thing I’m definitely looking forward to trying is the Grilled Mac + Cheese sammy. Yeah, that baby you’re looking at over on the right. Mmmm….

Another thing worth taking a look at are the fancy grilled cheese donuts, which is apparently “a thing” for Tom + Chee. Know what? I ain’t hatin’ it. I mean, the majority of the ones currently featured on the menu are a bit out there fore me, but I’ve got my eye on one or two as potential victims…errr, dining companions?

2014 Orlando Year in Review

Can’t believe 2014 has come to a close and we’re already running fast-and-furious into 2015! Where does the time go, friends?

The end of last year was quite busy and we weren’t able to pay as much attention to our dear little site as we would’ve liked. However, we’re starting fresh and will do our best to keep you informed about all the fantastic things going on in The City Beautiful. Through our eyes, of course!

In the meantime, we recently ran across this great video put together by our friends at Visit Orlando, showcasing many of the exciting things that happened in Central Florida last year. Got any favorites, or were you involved in any of the big projects? We’d love to hear about it.

Enzian Pays Tribute to Robin Williams

Enzian Theater dropped an email to subscribers this past week announcing a month-long tribute to the late Robin Williams during December. Highlighting such classic pieces like “Dead Poets Society,” “Good Will Hunting,” and “Good Morning Vietnam.” Personally, one of my favorites is “Mrs. Doubtfire” but it’s not on the schedule. Out of those being featured I have to say “Dead Poets Society” is the one I’m most eager to see.

For more info on this and other special programs and showings visit Enzian’s website.

Which Robin Williams movie are you looking forward to seeing?

Terror on Church Street Comes Back To Life…Sort Of

Who remembers Terror on Church Street?! I’m takin’ it waaaaay back right now. I recall visiting Orlando when I was younger and always wanting to visit this used-to-be-downtown-staple Of course, now we get our fights from events such as Halloween Horror Nights and Howl-O-Scream.

Well, some of the original folks behind Terror on Church Street are bringing it back to life, so to speak, with a new haunted experience that will live at The Majestic located on North John Young Parkway. It’s a little bit of an odd location – ok, A LOT a bit – but I’m sure there’s a very logical reason for it ($$$). Currently raising money for the project, Nightmares at The Majestic will offer to scare its visitors 24 dates during the month of October. You can read more about it in an article recently published on OrlandoWeekly.com.

Nightmares at the Majestic

What do you think? We’ll you be checking this out during the Halloween season? Or are there too many other events going on?

Cloak & Dapper to Open Store in Orlando

Our friends over at Cloak & Dapper are finally opening a store. A real store! Like, you can go in and shop.

Here’s a little tease they posted on their Instagram not too long ago:

“Front Door Eye-candy”

And just yesterday this:

We’re really proud and happy for them. It’s been fun to watch their growth, contribution, and recognition within the Central Florida community. Remember this profile we did last year?

Can’t wait to pay the new store in Ivanhoe Village a visit soon!

Strike Outs Bowling at Fashion Square Mall

Fashion Square Mall is really, really trying to step up its game. And quite honestly I’m really happy to see it (the whole area could use a breath of fresh air) – although I still question what the end result will be. We already know there are plans for an Element by Westin hotel to be added into the mix of shopping and dining, and now Strike Outs–a bowling and game facility–has just opened. Check out their Facebook Page:

Not personally my cup of tea but 1) I wouldn’t mind checking things out at some point and 2) I imagine this bowling/movie package would be quite appealing to a family looking to do something fun together one evening or on the weekend.

You can keep up with future developments on the Fashion Square Mall website or by Liking them on Facebook.

What do you think? Excited about all of the new development in this part of Central Florida?

Element by Westin at Fashion Square

You might recall the post we published a little over a week ago about the new Element by Westin hotel being developed at Fashion Square Mall. I was driving by recently and made it a point to stop and grab a photo.

Fashion Square Hotel

(New Starwood Resorts & Hotels site?)

This is pretty much dead center on the south side of the mall complex, between Panera Bread and Macy’s. Now, I didn’t see any signage specifically noting this is where the new Element by Westin (Starwood Hotels & Resorts) will be located but I can only assume.

We’ll be sure to update with any info we uncover….

World of Beer in Downtown Orlando

UPDATE 8/19:

Rather timely to our post last week (see below), Orlando Weekly just shared some info yesterday on their Facebook Page about World of Beer employee recruitment initiatives coming up both today and tomorrow. So – looks like the opening is getting closer and closer. Check it out:

If you’re on the hunt for a job, good luck!

*********************************************************************************************************************
The World of Beer in downtown Orlando at Lake Eola has been touted as “coming soon” for well over a year now. Their last Tweet was in May of last year, and this past January Bungalower wrote an article not really stating much other than some of the major players in the development are no longer involved.

World of Beer

This seems like such a great place for a World of Beer, undoubtedly that would be successful if it ever does open its doors. Does anyone know anything about what’s going on here?

There are currently five World of Beer Central Florida locations, including Dr. Phillips, Altamonte, and Lake Mary.
